TV Networks Embrace Online Video with Great Success

If there was ever any doubt that Online Video is an extraordinarily powerful tool, Time magazine is here to say otherwise. In its recent list of the Best Inventions of 2008, online video site Hulu was the Number 4 invention on the list. Hulu, which was devised with cooperation between Fox and NBC, is now one of the premiere places on the Web to watch TV shows and movies, all for free. Time has gone as far as to say that “when cable eventually dies, websites like Hulu will be held responsible.”

Upon its initially mocked debut, Hulu was thought to simply be a YouTube copycat with a silly name, but since then it has grown to feature TV shows and movies from NBC, Fox, CBS, Comedy Central and many more. Featuring high-resolution content that put YouTube’s offerings to shame, and HD content that is typically offered by only the Network websites, Hulu has certainly poised itself as an extreme powerhouse in the online video battle.

While Hulu isn’t a site where you can showcase your own videos, its success does have something to say to anyone still on the fence about the power of online video. Hulu proves that even the TV networks have decided to embrace online video as part of the future of content distribution, and the more than 5.34 million unique viewers generated in October alone are certain to cement that decision. If the TV networks have finally stopped fighting it and joined in, you can be sure that the rest of the world isn’t far behind. Can your business afford to be left in the dust?
