Cleveland is now getting the Google street view treatment. Below is a screen capture of the areas covered on an overlay of Google Maps.

It does not make it all the way out to my neighborhood, but many of the local attractions are covered. It is Opening Day, so let’s enjoy one last view of Jacobs Field! For those who don’t follow Cleveland sports closely, Jacobs Field was re-named Progressive Field before this season. The street view was captured sometime before the signs were changed.

Nice find, Matt. As a Clevelander, I feel some pride in knowing that we’ve been selected to join what used to be an exclusive club of cities like L.A., Denver, Miami, and N.Y. I look forward to spotting unsuspecting friends and acquaintances captured in their daily outdoor lives by Google’s eye. Who knows, maybe I’ll find myself!
It’s interesting to think about Google steet view paired with the news of U.S. cell phone network providers allowing GPS tracking of individual phones. Surveillance is getting a whole lot easier, and people seem to like it. Plus, when the Android platform and Google’s phone become a reality, who knows what kind of tracking we’ll be able to do then?
This has been a great help to me while looking for a place to live. I can use this to get a good feel for the neighborhood. It has saved me a lot of time!
It is nice to see the old sign.
I am impressed with the quality of the street views. I have been using the street view to look at houses and it has been surprising how many places are covered.
I remember old names of buildings getting changes for sports teams. For instance, Philly had the Spectrum, then it became the First Union Center (FU Center). Now, instead of saying FU, we are forced to say Wachovia.
When is Google going to sponsor a stadium??? I am sure they have plenty of bankroll to finance it.
Then everyone in a city can say… I’m going to Google my team.
Yes, that was corny.
