Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat, has officially gone public and is looking to be worth over $30 billion. (The New York Times) That’s $27 billion more than the offer they rejected from Facebook. With 150 million daily users on Snapchat, advertisers shouldn’t miss their opportunity to use Snapchat to speak to their audience. In fact, one of the best ways to reach audiences is through Snapchat’s geofilter feature.
If you are obsessed with the puppy filter, you probably also love the on-demand geofilters on Snapchat. For those that aren’t familiar, you can create a filter that anyone on Snapchat can use based on the location they are at. If you’re looking for more brand awareness and haven’t already created a custom geofilter, you should try it!
Here’s how you can create your own Snapchat geofilter:
- The first step is to design your filter. You can either create your own or use one of the templates that Snapchat provides. If you’re making this for one of your clients, you’ll have to create your own design. Photoshop, PicMonkey, and Canva are great design tools and allow you to customize the dimensions to the 1080 by 1920 pixels that are required. The size also has to be under 300KB and your design needs to be saved as a .PNG file. Here are other guidelines you will need to follow.
- After you upload your design to https://geofilters.snapchat.com/ you can choose which date(s) and what time(s) you want the filter to run. Note: You cannot upload your geofilter until it is a month before you want it to run.
- After that, you get to choose where you want your filter to be accessible at. You can use your mouse to click and draw a fence around the area where the filter will run. Everyone in this area during your date and time will have the ability to use your filter when they go on Snapchat.
- Finally, you can put in your payment information and submit the filter for review. After it is reviewed, you’ll receive an email when the filter is approved. This can take up to two days. After the filter has run, you’ll be able to access metrics about how many uses and views you received from your filter.
These geofilters engage your audience and raise brand awareness while bringing more creativity to your brand at a very affordable price. With Snapchat growing even more in popularity, as evidenced by its IPO, now is the time to set your brand awareness strategy apart from your competitors with on-demand geofilters.
