Fathom Education is proud to announce that the first annual Giving on the Green charity golf outing raised nearly $3,000! Fifty-five people participated in the event, which was held at Mallard Creek Golf Club in Columbia Station, Ohio on Saturday, August 22nd. All of the proceeds from the outing will go to two non-profit organizations, Mary’s Meals and Open Doors Academy.
Giving on the Green was the first public event reflecting Fathom Education’s recent efforts to nurture a culture of giving. The team is making generosity a core part of its operations, from team members’ daily interactions with each other to larger events such as the golf outing and a major scholarship for purpose-driven college students. The team has committed to its giving culture with the belief that the foundation of its work is to help others – because it’s the right thing to do.
Helping Children across the World
Mary’s Meals and Open Doors Academy are committed to improving the lives of children, both locally and internationally. Donations to Mary’s Meals will provide meals for children who attend school across the world, ensuring that they have access to both nutrition and education. Open Doors Academy is a Northeast Ohio organization that offers academic tutoring, summer camps and enrichment programs for adolescents.
“A golf outing seemed like the perfect way to raise money for these organizations during the summer,” says Brittany Amato, avid golfer and Senior Digital Strategist who coordinated the event. “It also gave everyone a chance to connect with friends, families and coworkers.”
Special Thanks to Our Sponsors
The sponsors were instrumental to the success of Giving on the Green. Our event sponsor was Greens Towel, a company that makes sensibly priced, super-absorbent golf towels. They gave a matching donation of the towels and golf club brushes purchased by Fathom Education. Hole sponsors included Hubbell Incorporated, and baskets were donated by Adobe Systems Incorporated, Chipotle Mexican Grill, The D.C. Pasta Co., Empowering Punch, Google, Great Lakes Science Center, Lake Erie Monsters, and Thistlethwaite Vineyards.
The winning team included Michael Kartson, Scott Krebs, Charlly Woods and George Chase. Each team member was awarded a dozen golf balls, a bottle of wine and a selection of other treats. But these weren’t the only benefits of victory. “It was great to win – and lose 10 pounds from sweating all day,” says Mike, the Director of Digital Solutions for Fathom Education.
Aside from the gift basket raffle, there were other fun activities such as the Marshmallow Drive contest. Each participant developed his or her own technique for positioning the marshmallow before taking a swing. Another hit at the outing was the catering provided by Tony K’s Bar & Grille, particularly the steak dinner.
