Growing Your Nonprofit with Digital Marketing

Nonprofit Growth - Hand Holding Plant

Many nonprofits are using digital marketing to reach supporters and generate interest about their organizations. Recently, an animal rescue group was able to raise $6,000 in 12 hours with email marketing. Facebook allowed one nonprofit to find a business partner that helped it raise over $11,000. And with a staff of only four employees, another nonprofit was able to grow its event to 3,000 attendees with online promotion and management tools.

Becoming a locally or nationally recognized organization online can reduce the time spent on outreach efforts and increase advocacy and donations. The trend in engaging potential supporters on their own terms via social media, email, search engines and websites is only predicted to increase.

According to the Convio Online Marketing Nonprofit Benchmark Index Study:

  • Advocacy continues to play a key role in online engagement
  • The crossover between advocacy and fundraising has increased
  • More people are opting in on nonprofit email subscptions
  • Investing more in conversion optimization profoundly increases registration rates
  • Online revenue has increased by 15.8%

Online marketing allows nonprofits to continue relationships with current supporters and create awareness among those who may not know of the organization. In fact, first-time donations account for almost half of all online donations. Outreach via phone calls, flyers and mailers can be time-consuming and costly. Using online tools and channels correctly can help save time and money.
