Ask Google and Yahoo! Love or Hate Wikipedia?

Disclaimer: This is not a scientific survey, and really proves nothing. I had a  good chuckle this week when looking at search engine results pages. It seemed just about every query I performed had Wikipedia in the top ten. So I decided to get philosophical. If I wanted to know about love, what would I find?

This sounds desperate and slightly dangerous; I searched for love on Google.

There you have it! Wikipedia is number one in “love” with Google. But after that love turns into a circus. It seems everybody loves love on Wikipedia. It turns up in the top spot on Yahoo! and MSN as well. If you don’t love Wikipedia, it seems that you have to ask Ask.

I am a realist. I know hate exists. Google, Yahoo and MSN agree on this as well.

I’ve also heard that the opposite of Love is not Hate, but Indifference. Is this true?  Well. Not really. Love, Hate and Indifference all have one thing in common.

    Wow, Matt.

That is super interesting. I am curious, what urged you to begin searching for love. Was it just curiosity. I think it is fascinating how Wikipedia is always ranked at the top. Do you think Google will ever tweak its algorithms to move away from having Wikipedia rank in the top 3 consitantly?

I wonder how much relevance is being placed on the links into the site. Sometimes the Wikipedia content on the high ranking page does not consitute a top 3 listing IMHO.

Great if you could fire back!
